ABOUT MAMITA
Holis. I humbly introduce myself as Miavan Feliciano Oña, also known as Mamita. I am the visionary and founder of MMKL, a brand that embodies my passion for beauty and chemistry.
My journey began in Brooklyn, New York City. However, my formative years were spent in the vibrant borough of the Bronx. I reside in Storm Lake, Iowa, a marvelous melting pot of cultures. During my seven-year career in the beauty industry, I have honed my craft and continuously strived for excellence.
As an American, my heritage is a rich blend of Puerto Rican, Italian, Indian, and African influences. I am blessed with a loving marriage and five wonderful children, two boys and three girls. My formative years were spent at Julliard Art School, where I pursued contemporary dance (ballet) in the bustling city of Manhattan, New York. My talent was recognized at a young age as I performed at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida, at the tender age of 9.
In 2014, my love for dance eventually changed my career. I embarked on a journey to explore the world of organic chemistry. Although I attended classes in Havana, Cuba, to further my knowledge, I could not complete my studies due to financial constraints. Nevertheless, the experience only intensified my interest in this field, and I continue pursuing it fervently.
YOUR BEAUTY IS OUR VISION
Our vision is to enrich developing and creating formulas that are safe for your skin, we want to achieve empowering everyone to feel beautiful in this world no matter the size or color, or experience.
We want the beauty industry to be more positive and flexible in every way. Focusing on beauty empowerment is important to us. We want a revolution of the ones that are not known in the beauty world. Let's continue to focus on lifting the diversity in makeup routines and give everyone hope and a voice. Let's balance both worlds by focusing on a big range of wild Neon colors and super elegant nude colors. That is our vision!
A little bit more of how I started!
In 2015 I came back to continue my research in toxic cosmetics and the benefits of cosmetics which here in the U.S there is more technology and resources to
understand the beauty Industry.
In 2016 I made my first Lip balm. I began with Lipsticks and loose pigments with basic formulas in Storm Lake, Iowa.
In 2017 I decided to start my own brand called Mamitas lips and Joined the NYC Fashion institute of technology beauty industry essentials and finished in 2018.
When I mastered my lipsticks in 2019 I decided to change the name of my brand to MamitasMKL and it fit perfectly.
I had a thought in mind, my childhood name is Mimi and as I was growing up they called me Mita or Mamita which means "little mama". I haven't heard of a product named Mamita yet!
In that same year, I decided to expand MMKL and I had a good feeling to expand to all products like eyeshadows, mascara, eyeliner, etc…
In the year 2020, we expanded our line to a full cosmetic line but then covid hit and we had a major setback due to the Packaging and Shipping problem, so I decided to put MMKL on hold until we got it under control. In that same year, my family and I decided to make our packaging at home until everything went back to normal. In the end of 2020, I took a trip back to Cuba and started a PR program to empower and educate beauty and self-care in Cienfuegos. We started with three women and in 20 days we had over 30 participants. It was very successful, due to the lack of beauty education in
Cuba, we were a big hit, so this was a big impact on my life. Thanks to my recent trip to Cuba I came back to the U.S with the greatest Idea of turning Mmkl into a Cuban American Cosmetic line.
In the future, I'm planning on expanding MMKL in bigger cities such as Miami, Las Vegas, New York City, California, and my dream countries Cuba and Europe. So now I am pushing Mmkl until we have completed our goal.
